Willamette Valley Junk Removal: Service Areas From Portland to Eugene

The I-5 Corridor: Oregon's Junk Removal Highway

The Willamette Valley runs roughly 150 miles from Portland to Eugene, following Interstate 5 through the most populated stretch of Oregon. About 70% of the state's population lives in this corridor, which means it's where junk removal services are most available, most competitive, and most affordable.

If you live within 15 miles of I-5 between Portland and Eugene, you're in the sweet spot for same-day or next-day junk removal service. The further you get from the highway — into the Coast Range foothills to the west or the Cascades to the east — the more limited (and expensive) service becomes.

Here's a breakdown of what's available in each part of the valley.

Portland Metro Area

The Portland metro — including Vancouver (WA), Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, Oregon City, Milwaukie, Gresham, and Clackamas — has the densest coverage. Multiple companies operate here, which keeps pricing competitive.

Typical pricing in Portland metro:

  • Single item (mattress, couch): $75–$150
  • Half-truck load: $250–$350
  • Full-truck load: $450–$600

Same-day service is standard if you call before noon. Weekend service is available but books up faster — Saturday mornings fill early.

Portland also has the best donation and recycling infrastructure in the state. Metro transfer stations, Free Geek for electronics, multiple Habitat ReStore locations, and a strong network of nonprofits that accept furniture and household goods. A good junk removal crew knows which items can be diverted from the landfill and routes them accordingly.

For Portland-specific disposal options, see our Portland Metro transfer stations guide.

Mid-Valley: Salem, Albany, Corvallis

The mid-Willamette Valley — Salem, Keizer, Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon, Woodburn, McMinnville, Newberg — has solid coverage. Most junk removal companies based in Portland will service Salem and the surrounding area, and some Salem-based companies cover the full mid-valley.

Pricing is comparable to Portland, sometimes slightly lower due to shorter drive times to disposal facilities:

  • Single item: $75–$135
  • Half-truck load: $225–$325
  • Full-truck load: $400–$550

Same-day service is usually available but less guaranteed than Portland. Next-day is the safe bet for scheduling.

The mid-valley's disposal infrastructure includes Marion County transfer stations, Coffin Butte Landfill (between Albany and Corvallis), and donation centers in Salem and Corvallis. Salem-Keizer disposal options are covered in detail in our dedicated guide.

McMinnville, Newberg, and Dundee — wine country — are serviceable but on the edge. Some companies charge a small trip fee ($20–$40) for addresses more than 10 miles from I-5.

South Valley: Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove

The southern Willamette Valley — Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Junction City, Veneta — has its own ecosystem of junk removal services. Some Portland-based companies cover the full I-5 corridor; others stop at Salem and hand off to Eugene-area providers.

Eugene-Springfield pricing:

  • Single item: $80–$150
  • Half-truck load: $250–$375
  • Full-truck load: $450–$625

Disposal goes through the Glenwood transfer station or Short Mountain Landfill. Eugene has excellent donation options through St. Vincent de Paul, BRING Recycling, Habitat ReStore (Springfield), and Goodwill. More on this in our Eugene-Springfield disposal guide.

Cottage Grove and towns south of Eugene start to thin out. Service is available but may require scheduling a day or two in advance, and trip fees may apply.

Smaller Towns and Rural Areas

Towns between the major cities — like Woodburn, Silverton, Dallas, Independence, Monmouth, Sweet Home, and Lebanon — are generally serviceable but with some caveats:

  • Same-day service is less common. Plan on scheduling at least a day ahead.
  • Trip fees ($20–$60) may apply for addresses far from I-5.
  • Some companies have minimum load requirements for rural pickups — they might not send a truck for a single chair.

For truly rural locations — out toward the coast, up in the foothills, or east toward the Cascades — service availability drops significantly. It's worth calling to confirm coverage before assuming someone will come out.

Our junk removal service covers the full Willamette Valley from Portland to Eugene, including most smaller towns within the corridor. Contact us to confirm coverage for your specific location.

What Affects Pricing by Location

Location affects junk removal pricing through three main factors:

Drive time. A crew based in Salem picking up in Salem has minimal drive time built into the price. The same crew driving to McMinnville adds 30 minutes each way — that fuel and labor cost gets reflected.

Disposal facility distance. Transfer station proximity matters. A Portland pickup goes to Metro Central or Metro South, both centrally located. A pickup in Sweet Home might need to drive 45 minutes to the nearest transfer station.

Competition. Portland has the most junk removal companies, which keeps prices tighter. Smaller markets have fewer options, which gives providers less pressure to compete on price.

For the best pricing, get quotes from at least two companies and compare on an apples-to-apples basis — same scope of work, same items, including any trip fees or surcharges. Check our pricing page for transparent estimates based on load size and location.
