Dye Removed: Not a Stain at All
These look like stains and are the opposite.
Chlorine bleach, in any product. Bathroom cleaners and mildew removers frequently contain it.
Benzoyl peroxide acne medication. The most common cause of mystery light spots, because it transfers off skin and towels and keeps working for hours.
Oxygen bleach and hydrogen peroxide at higher concentrations, especially with heat. Strong alkaline cleaners such as oven cleaner and heavy degreasers do the same, as do plant food and some insecticides.
Pet urine in its alkaline phase. Urine starts acidic and turns alkaline as it breaks down, and that phase attacks dye, particularly on nylon, leaving yellow or orange lightened areas.

Abrasion. Worn traffic lanes are not dirty, they are physically reduced. Cleaning brings them back to being clean and worn.
