Foam is the immediate failure
Laundry detergent is engineered to lather. In a carpet machine, that foam does two destructive things at once.

Softeners and fragrance make carpet re-soil faster
Fabric softeners work by depositing a thin lubricating film. On laundry that means a soft hand feel. On carpet it means an oily coating that dry soil sticks to instantly.
The result is a carpet that looks great for a week and then develops dark traffic lanes noticeably faster than before you cleaned it. Fragrance oils behave the same way. Do not add more product. The goal now is dilution and extraction, not chemistry.
