Chlorine bleach also has a short working life. An open jug loses strength over months, and a diluted solution in a spray bottle loses strength within about a day, so mix small batches.
What Chlorine Bleach Should Never Touch
Never mix it with anything. Chlorine bleach plus an ammonia cleaner releases chloramine gas, and ammonia is present in many glass cleaners and in urine. Use it only in a ventilated room, with a window open or a fan running, and only diluted with plain water.
Beyond mixing, chlorine bleach damages a specific list of materials. What Oxygen Bleach Is Actually For
Oxygen bleach is the better everyday choice for most household stain work.
It brightens colored laundry without stripping dye, lifts organic stains from fabric during a long soak, refreshes dingy grout without the corrosion problem, and cleans stained food containers, cutting boards and outdoor cushions.

Oxygen bleach has limits too. It will not disinfect to a registered standard. It should not be used on wool, silk or anything with a protein fiber, since the alkalinity damages them. It can dull some untreated aluminum. And once mixed with water it starts losing strength immediately, so mix it fresh.
Choosing Between Them
Ask what the job actually is.
If the goal is disinfecting a hard, nonporous surface to a stated standard, a properly diluted chlorine bleach solution or another registered disinfectant is the tool, used with ventilation and the full wet contact time.
If the goal is stain removal, brightening, deodorizing fabric or refreshing grout, oxygen bleach does the job with less collateral damage and no gas risk.
If the item is colored, wool, silk, stainless, chrome, aluminum or natural stone, chlorine bleach is off the table regardless of the job.
If mold is growing into porous material such as drywall or framing, neither product is the answer. Surface bleaching hides the discoloration without addressing what is behind it, and that is remediation work for a specialist.
