Second, motor stacking. Two vacuum motors plumbed in series add lift; the same two plumbed in parallel add airflow instead. Some spec sheets quote the sum of both motors' individual ratings.

Third, a lift number quoted with no airflow number beside it tells you almost nothing. A machine can be built for a very high sealed-lift figure and still recover water poorly.

Where Lift Gets Lost in Real Use

The rated number is a ceiling, and everything downstream of the motor takes a piece of it. The biggest single loss is hose length, which is why why long hoses cost you suction is a genuine working concern rather than a technicality.

Hose diameter matters more than most people expect. Dropping from a two-inch hose to a one-and-a-half-inch hose over a long run costs a substantial share of the available performance, because friction rises sharply as diameter falls.
