It is at floor level, which is exactly where a small child looks. It is enclosed with no airflow, so fumes concentrate. It often has plumbing running through it, and a leak from above soaks the labels off everything.

You do not have to abandon it. You do have to add a latch, a containment tray, and some separation.

Ventilation and Temperature

Cleaning products want a cool, dry, ventilated place. Sealed cabinets do the opposite.

Heat degrades several common products. Chlorine bleach loses strength steadily and much faster when stored warm, so a jug in a hot garage may be noticeably weaker within months. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down in light and heat, which is why it ships in opaque bottles.

Adhesive strap latches are cheap and effective and fail when the adhesive lets go on a damp cabinet. Interior spring latches require reaching in and pressing, and they are sturdy.

Test whichever you choose the way a determined toddler would: pull hard, repeatedly, at an angle.

Above all, keep every product in its original container. A cleaner decanted into a food or drink bottle is one of the most common paths to an accidental poisoning, and that risk is worth more attention than any latch.
