Sponges that have hardened with cured grout are done. They are consumables, not tools.
Buckets get a cement ring no matter what you do. Let the slurry settle, pour off the water where local rules allow, let the solids cure, then flex the bucket and the cured disc pops out.
Never pour thinset or grout slurry down a drain. Cement solids settle in the trap and in the line and set there, and that is a plumbing bill.
What if it has already cured?
Cured thinset can sometimes be cracked off a steel trowel by flexing the blade and tapping it. Cement bonds poorly to smooth steel.
For thin films, a wire brush or a wire wheel takes it off. Wear eye protection and expect it to take a while.
Acidic masonry cleaners, usually based on phosphoric acid or sulfamic acid, will dissolve cement residue. These need gloves, eye protection, ventilation, and a careful label read.
Never mix an acidic cleaner with bleach or with any other cleaning product. Acid plus bleach produces chlorine gas, and that is a genuine emergency in a small bathroom.
