Step One: Shut Down the HVAC

Step Three: Make the Room Negative

Set a fan in a window blowing outward, and seal around it with plastic and tape. Air now leaves the work area faster than it enters, so the barrier bulges inward and any leak pulls clean air in rather than pushing dusty air out. A dedicated air scrubber with a HEPA filter does the same job better and also cleans the air it moves, which matters when you cannot vent to the outside.

Crack a window elsewhere in the work area for makeup air. A completely sealed room starves the fan and the pressure difference disappears.

Step Four: Cut Dust at the Source

Containment is the backstop. Reducing dust in the first place does more.
