Why Loading Matters More Than the Setting
Water sanitizes only what it touches. Every shadowed spot is a spot the cycle never treated, and this is where most disappointing results come from.
Face soiled surfaces toward the spray. Bowls and cups go upside down and angled so water reaches the interior and drains out. Nothing should nest inside anything else. Tall items must not block the upper spray arm, and you should spin each arm by hand before closing the door to confirm it turns freely.
Do not overpack. A rack crammed to the last slot leaves whole plate faces untouched. Leave a finger of space between items.
Skip the pre-rinse. Modern detergents contain enzymes that need food soil to work against, and a spotless load can actually come out worse. Scrape solids into the trash and leave the rest.
